visual artist and biomimicker specialising in the symbiosis of nature and technology

about me
Hi, I’m Miroo, a new media artist and designer based in Berlin. My work revolves around exploring the intersection of nature, technology, and human perception. I identify as a “bio-mimicker,” drawing inspiration from the patterns, processes, and systems found in nature to create immersive installations and generative artworks.
My projects often merge speculative design, storytelling, and evolving digital systems to reflect on sustainability and the complex relationships between humanity and the natural world. While not all of my work is directly related to nature and ecology, I find that these themes always appear somewhere in the process, and remain in the back of my mind.
I’m currently pursuing a Master of Arts in New Media Design, where I’m researching the symbiosis of nature and technology, and prototyping concepts such as augmented ecosystems and digital biomes. My ongoing thesis project, TerraSynthesis, explores the idea of a self-sustaining, evolving new media ecosystem within a custom-built, human-sized terrarium, blending generative art with ecological storytelling.
I believe that in an ever more digitized world, humankind is becoming distanced from the deep, innate connection to nature that is integral to who we are, and important in ensuring our compassion for each other and for the planet we live on. Through my work, I aim to inspire a sense of wonder and connection, while reimagining the role of art and technology in communicating the importance of ecological balance.

INSIDE THE LIGHT
In collaboration with MaHalla Berlin and Organysmo by LED Pulse, Inside The Light was an immersive Dinner Series experience featuring an eight course meal by Michelin star chef Stephan Mentschel, served against the backdrop of Led Pulse’s installation of volumetric LEDs called The Dragon. Each course had a carefully themed and curated light design programmed by me.

dis(orient)
dis(orient) website:
dis(orient) is a fifteen minute immersive experience, comprising of a multi-wall surrounding projection and a uniquely captivating sound design. This installation was created for the hybrid media exhibition Trans Corpo Real in Berlin on February 3rd, 2024. It was also later featured at Berlin’s biggest new media symposium, Manifest.io, later that year.
dis(orient) was designed as a journey that helps viewers explore the biological phenomenon of navigation, and allows them to reconnect with their bodies.
CREATIVE CODING:
TOUCHDESIGNER
as part of a masters degree in New Media Design, I have been experimenting with creative coding, creating visual art pieces powered by TouchDesigner, a node-based design software. Some of these projects stand alone while others are audio reactive or created for live visual performances.
central to my creative process is investigating how new media technologies, artificial intelligence and code can be harnessed and manipulated in order to serve purposes of education, ecological awareness and storytelling. I am also in the process of experimenting with transcribing the algorithms and codes found in natural systems into softwares like TD in an attempt to sit at the intersection of art, science and technology.

Rewilding Berlin
created during my residency at CoGalleries in Berlin, Rewilding is a series of ten digital image compositions, which began as simple pictures I took of different human centric parts of the city - landmarks, busy squares, building facades. I then “exposed” these images to the natural elements. The idea here was to give the human-centric elements no agency, no control in the process of exposing them to nature. This is because, in the baseline universal order of things, nature always takes precedence. It is only surface-level human activity that affords us the illusion that we are in control.

Through Water
an animated series
Berlin, April 2023
Through Water is a series of four animations offering a sort of exaggerated look at rising water levels hypothetically drowning different parts of Berlin. The idea here is to evoke an emotional response from the viewer, even if that response is awkward laughter, in order to drive the point home. Have we really confronted the reality of our changing climate?
jenseits der natur
berlin, germany
november 2022
jenseits der natur (beyond nature) is a series of still and moving images created during my month long residency at the Berlin Art Institute.
these eight stills are original compositions, created by layering two separate images each time. all photographs used were taken on the same day at the Berlin Zoo & Aquarium. this began as a mission to free the animals from Berlin Zoo, in a sense. what i am left with is a commentary of sorts on natural habitats, ecological displacement and adaptation. prints available upon request.
these four moving image compositions are a coming together of my personal footage from the Berlin Aquarium, and underwater spearfishing footage from off the shores of karachi, pakistan by faazil tapal. captive animals in glass cages are superimposed larger than scale over the latest and most daunting new predator in our oceans: human beings.
the culmination of jeneits der natur was in this short moving image piece, produced as a section of Rouzbeh Rashidi’s experimental film titled ‘Exquisite Corpse’.
this was an exercise in discomfort. some things that make me uncomfortable: the feeling of suffocation one gets underwater, animals being killed. but also, animals in captivity, large fishes swimming circles around tiny aquarium tanks. what does discomfort mean to you?
pakistan flood relief prints
these ten superimposed pieces were created as part of fundraising efforts to provide relief from the cataclysmic floods that hit Pakistan in the summer of 2022. each piece is a layered composition of two images, all captured in different parts of the country. these pieces depict ecological and climactic changes, as well as their effect on wildlife and human societies.
